GOLDEN TRIANGLE STUDENTS INDUCTED INTO PHI THETA KAPPA

Eighteen students were inducted into the Beta Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on our Golden Triangle campus in a ceremony that took place Oct. 17, 2023.

An induction ceremony for new members of the Beta Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on our Golden Triangle campus took place the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the Lyceum Auditorium.

Golden Triangle PTK advisors Scott Baine and Dr. Kelly Cantrell conducted the ceremony, with assistance from Beta Iota Zeta student officers Parker Thomas, president, Landon Coward, vice president of service, and Heid Salihij, officer recorder. Salihij was also among the new inductees.

The University of Mississippi provided refreshments after the ceremony and a representative from that institution of higher learning was on hand to speak with the inductees.

Here is a list of those who participated in the induction ceremony and, if available, what their plans are for the future:

Ethan Barrow is a Political Science major. After EMCC, he plans to transfer to Belhaven University. He hopes to pursue a career in education and pursue public service.     

Hannah Baxter is a geoscience science major. She plans to transfer to Mississippi State University. Once finished with her undergraduate degree, she plans to attend graduate school in order to one day become a professor and researcher of geoscience.

Zabia Burton is Practical Nursing student and will graduate July 2024. She plans to attend William Carey University’s LPN-BSN bridge program upon graduation. Her career goals include becoming a nurse practitioner.            

Grace Goff is a Secondary Education major. She is transferring to Mississippi State University this Spring. She hopes to pursue a career in education and counseling.

Delontae Hatchett is a Sports Administrator major. He plans to transfer to either Mississippi State University or Mississippi University for Women for the fall of 2024. He would love to work for a professional basketball or football team in the near future.

Samuel Hollis is dual enrolled at EMCC and the Golden Triangle Early College High School. He will graduate in 2025 from GTECH and with an associate degree from EMCC.        

Shayne Hyde is a business and pre-law major. He hopes to become a federal prosecutor.

Lucy Jennings               

Sydnee Johnson is an early college student majoring in Liberal Arts & Science. Next fall she plans to transfer to Mississippi University for Women. She hopes to pursue a career in nursing.

Zyia Lane  

Takeyla Lewis is a marketing major. She will complete her associate degree in the spring of 2024. She hopes to someday work for the NBA or NFL.

Thalia Morgan is currently enrolled in the Golden Triangle Early College High School program. She will graduate in 2025 with a high school diploma, as well as an associate degree. Afterwards, Thalia plans on furthering her education at the University of Mississippi; completing the 3+3 accelerated law program majoring in corporate law.

Kamya Parks is an accounting major. She will complete her degree in the spring of 2024. She hopes to become a successful accountant one day.

Tyleria Pulphus is an accounting major. She is transferring to the University of Southern Mississippi after she graduates in 2025. She hopes to pursue a career in financial advisory.

Haidi Salihaj is a special education major. She will complete her degree from East Mississippi Community College in the Spring of 2024. She hopes to help children with special needs and their families.                    

Hannah Smith is an English major. She is transferring to Virginia State next fall. She hopes to become an English teacher, and later become an English professor.

Kyla Stewart is nursing major. She plans on attending a four-year college after EMCC. Kyla plans to build her career on nursing and hopefully end as a cardiologist.
