The first Spring Preview Day on East Mississippi Community College’s Scooba campus took place Wednesday, April 22, with more than 100 students from Kemper County High School and Noxubee County High School in attendance. The day of events was planned and coordinated by Recruiting Coordinator David Williams, the Student Government Association and student ambassadors.
“It was a blast having students from Kemper County and Noxubee County on campus,” Williams said. “My students and myself truly enjoyed showing them all that EMCC has to offer and it was an amazing team effort to pull off such a great event.”
The day started with a pep rally by EMCC cheerleaders and the Mighty Lion Band outside of Stennis Hall. Guest speakers during the introduction ceremony in the Stennis Hall auditorium included EMCC President Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, Vice-President of Instruction Dr. James Rush and Dean of Students Sharon Thompson.
EMCC student ambassadors from both the Scooba and Golden Triangle campuses led groups of visiting students on tours of the facilities while providing them with information about the college and its educational programs.
A college fair in the student union provided the visitors with insights into housing, advising, financial aid and other departments on campus. Field day games outside of the union for included volleyball, cornhole and bubble ball. A popcorn and a cotton candy machine were also set up, along with an EMCC-themed slot machine that provided the students with an opportunity to win prizes if they correctly answered questions about the college.
There were also play activities on Sullivan-Windham Field and tours of the football locker room. Lions Fit had dodgeball and basketball games set up outside for students to play. The day concluded with lunch in the cafeteria.
Memory Dale, a junior from Kemper County High School, attended Spring Preview Day.
“Meeting new people was my favorite part of the day because it was so inspiring,” Dale said.
