East Mississippi Community College mathematics instructor Dr. Subhash Subedi has been selected as a 2026 Moody Institute Fellow.
As a Moody Institute Fellow, Subedi was awarded $1,500, which he will use to attend the 52nd American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges annual conference that will take place Nov. 19-22 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
At the conference, Subedi will explore innovative and high-impact teaching practices in mathematics education. Subedi said he is particularly interested in the responsible integration of artificial intelligence in online mathematics courses, innovative assessment strategies, and engaging instructional resources that promote student success. The knowledge and strategies gained through this professional development experience will be incorporated into mathematics courses at EMCC to enhance student learning, engagement, and achievement, he said.
“I am deeply honored to be selected as a 2026 Moody Institute Fellow,” Subedi said. “I believe that every student can succeed in mathematics when provided with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities to learn. My goal as an educator is not only to teach mathematical concepts but also to help students develop confidence, perseverance, and a genuine appreciation for learning. This fellowship will allow me to explore innovative teaching practices, including the responsible use of artificial intelligence and technology, so that I can create even more engaging learning experiences and better serve my students at East Mississippi Community College.”
Only instructors at Mississippi’s 15 public community and junior colleges can apply for the fellowship. Applicants must submit a proposal to the Moody Institute Trust Fund Board explaining how the funds will be used to enhance their ability to become more effective teachers. Only selected applicants are chosen for the fellowship.
The Moody Fund program is administered by the Mississippi Community College Foundation.
Subedi, who has taught on EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus since 2020, formerly served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Coastal Carolina University and as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a Master of Mathematics degree and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. Prior to that, Subedi was a lecturer at Khwopa College of Engineering in Bhaktapur, Nepal. He also taught mathematics at the lower secondary and secondary school levels in Nepal.
He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. Subedi is a mathematics researcher and author with published works in peer-reviewed journals.
Subedi is a member of the 2025 LEO Leadership class, a year-long leadership development program that offers selected EMCC faculty and staff a series of interactive sessions on the dynamics of leadership in the context of working in the community college environment.
He is married to Dr. Srijana Ghimire, an assistant professor at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The couple has a four-year-old son, Kaivalya Subedi.
The Moody Institute Trust Fund (MITF) was established in 1990 in honor of Dr. George V. Moody, the first executive director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges (SBCJC). The purpose of the Moody Institute is to provide funds for enrichment experiences for faculty members employed in Mississippi’s public community and junior colleges.
