More than 80 EMCC students have been invited to join the Eta Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa on EMCC’s Scooba campus this Spring, and 32 participated in a joint induction ceremony for the national honor society Wednesday night in the Stennis Hall auditorium.
Official inductees from the Fall 2023 semester were given the opportunity to participate in the Spring ceremony after last October’s induction was postponed.
Vice President of Instruction Dr. James Rush welcomed the crowd for Wednesday’s ceremony,
which also included a special recognition of longtime PTK advisor Janet Briggs. A
reception hosted by Mississippi State University was held in the board dining room
of the F.R. Young Student Union afterward. 
New Spring 2024 inductees include Kirsten Barnett, Matthew Birdsong, Shalea Boddie, Colin Boyd, Brianna Byrd, Sumayah Cole, Madelyn Cornelius, Jackson Crow, Dy’rekia Dooley, John Fleming, Caleb Giles, Braxton Goff, Jada Harris, Je’Niecia Hill, Kaler Hill, Phillip Hughes, Grace Johnson, Stacie Johnson, Ciarra King, Kymiah McCann, Sadie McCoy, Trymitee Overstreet, Adrian Page, Jamario Payton, Latia Powe, Chimiyah Pulliam, Cooper Sanders, Jamarion Sanders, Carmen Scarbrough, Isabella Temple, Sydney Watkins, Brenda Wisher and Deborah Wisher.
Official Fall 2023 inductees included Lexie Angle, Kylah Bell, Courtavie Clark, Neanna Drake, Madalyn Dvorak, Christopher Ellis, Shadow Goodrich, Elijah Graves, Bishop Hardin, Elijah Jackson, Edward Murphy, Riley Myers, Kelsey Odom, Joshua Patton, William Rodgers, Kyla Simonds, Paul Stalcup, Tyamber Steele, Precious Stone, Kelli Thomas, Chance West, India White, Deroyce Williams and Luke Winstead.

I would not have been able to do half of the things that I have done if i didn’t come here. First generation students are already at a disadvantage. If you are able to you should get an education to break the generational curse and create generational wealth for your family. Education is the most powerful tool.”
