  • EMCC students earn GED diplomas, set new goals

Jimmie Reed was 17 years old when the first of his three daughters was born. A half-credit away from graduating from Noxubee County High School, Reed dropped out before earning his diploma, a decision he has regretted for 26 years. On May 26, he was among 32 EMCC students in the Launch Pad program who received their GED diplomas.

  • Room to grow: New Student Union to open during the fall

The opening later this fall of a two-story, 76,000-square-foot student union and multi-purpose building at EMCC's Golden Triangle campus will help alleviate growing pains at the college and provide additional classroom space. It is also expected to become a focal point for students looking to grab a bite to eat, visit with friends or prepare for their next class.

  • Community meeting: Workforce Sevices expands programs

EMCC is partnering with Kemper County business and community leaders to implement a new program at the Scooba campus designed to provide residents age 17 to 24 with employment skills needed to land and keep a job. An informational meeting on the Step 2 Success program will take place June 2 at 6 p.m. in the Stennis Auditorium on the Scooba campus.

  • Partnership: EMCC and MUW sign new articulation agreement

An articulation agreement signed May 25 by East Mississippi Community College and Mississippi University for Women will enable EMCC students who have earned Associate of Applied Science degrees in industry and manufacturing areas to transfer seamlessly to MUW. The formal ceremony was held at EMCC’s Center for Manufacturing Technology Excellence.
