Are you enrolled in an approved WBL major?
Are you work-ready?
Are you willing to learn and earn?
Can you have a job and meet school and family obligations
If you answered "yes" to all the above questions, then the Work-based Learning Program may be for you!
Work-based Learning is a teaching strategy that blends classroom instruction and structured on-the-job experience for community college students enrolled in an approved WBL major. WBL prepares students for careers in a highly technical workplace. Students who have successfully completed high school programs of study that articulate with EMCC programs may be eligible for advanced referral to WBL.
Are You "Work Ready"?
A "Work-ready" student is recommended to WBL by his/her advisor. Employers have requested EMCC use the following characteristics for employment consideration:
- Respects Authority
- Follows Instructions
- Human Relations
- Accepts Criticism
- Use of Technology
- Academic Aptitude
- Thinking Skills
- Communication Skills
- Drug Free
Students must be willing to commit to represent East Mississippi Community College and themselves in a exemplary manner. Students also understand that the nature of the future relationship between the college and business/industry depends upon their performance. Students must also realize that acceptance in WBL is not official until the student completes the WBL application process and submits a signed WBL Education Training Agreement to the WBL staff.
