"State of the Unions"
This has been a building year for EMCC. We opened New Sullivan-Windham Field and the Buster & Jeanie Orr Center for Christian Activity. Next on the horizon are two much-needed buildings, new Student Centers at the Scooba and Golden Triangle campuses.
The Scooba Student Union will be ready for students in fall 2012. The 41,000-square-foot facility includes a cafeteria and banquet hall, a grill for casual dining, a book store, a convenience store, offices, conference rooms and an outdoor patio area. It will also feature a recreational area called “The Commons” for students to gather after-hours or study between classes. The Scooba Student Union will open during the summer term and we’ll have a grand opening in the fall.
Also under construction in Scooba campus is a rodeo
barn on Highway 16, across from the main campus.
With major projects completed in Scooba, EMCC's attention now turns to the Golden Triangle campus.
A Student Union is planned for the area between the
Humanities & Fine Arts building and the Center for
Manufacturing Technology Excellence. The proposed
Student Union will be a multi-floor building with about
twice the square footage of the one being built in
Scooba. It will house food service, a commons area,
a large open computer lab, offices and as many as
10 classrooms. The project may be complete as
early as 2014.
More building projects for the Golden Triangle campus
are included in the college's 25-year construction plan,
