Admissions

ACADEMIC AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS

FIRST TIME STUDENTS - HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE, GED GRADUATE, OR HOMESCHOOLED GRADUATE

Must complete and return an Application for Admission
Must submit ACT scores (if under the age of 21 or required by program)
Must submit one (1) of the following documents

Official high school transcript from an accredited high school which must include graduation date and school seal or signature of school official , or an official Mississippi Occupational Diploma, or an official high school transcript showing nineteen (19) acceptable high school units (a student may not be considered for financial aid unless he or she has either a GED or high school diploma.)

Official GED transcript with satisfactory scores

Official Home Schooled transcript with graduation date from a recognized home school agency and signed by an official of that agency, or an official transcript signed by a parent with a notarized sworn affidavit stating that the student’s record is accurate and complete. The transcript must show all courses completed, grades earned, and number of units earned. Course descriptions may be required.

TRANSFER STUDENTS - THOSE WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED OTHER COLLEGES

Must complete and return an Application for Admission

Must submit an official transcript from the most recent post secondary institution attended (Athletics are required to submit ALL transcripts.) If the student plans to graduate from EMCC, ALL college transcripts are required.

Must be eligible for immediate readmission to the college last attended

CAREER STUDENTS - THOSE WHO ARE TAKING CLASSES THAT LEAD TO A CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY*

Must complete and return an Application for Admission to the Admissions Office

Must meet number three (3) under First Time Student (above) to enroll in all career programs except Automotive Mechanics, Commercial Truck Driver Training, and Machine Tool Operation. For Automotive Mechanics and Machine Tool Operations a student must (a) be 18 years of age, (b) have completed the tenth grade and (c) show “Ability to Benefit” by appropriate performance on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), Level A. For Commercial Truck Driving entrance requirements, see the requirements under Commercial Truck Driving in the 2005-2007 Catalog. For Cosmetology and Welding and Fabrication, the student must be a high school graduate or must have passed the GED and scored 10.0 grade equivalency on the TABE, Level A.

Must meet specific requirements as outlined in each program. For these requirements, see the Career Programs description in the 2005-2007Catalog

All applicable ACT requirements are waived for students (except Practical Nursing students) who have completed a career program or a higher degree program from an accredited institution equal to or greater in length than the emphasis the student is seeking to enter. For practical Nursing student, the ACT scores are State Department of Education requirements for entrance.

*The Certificate of Proficiency is a validation that the student has completed an intensive, full-time schedule of training in a specific skill area.

DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS - THOSE WHO ATTEND HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE AT THE SAME TIME

Complete and return an Application for Admission

Must submit ACT scores

Must submit an official transcript from the high school currently attending which includes the school seal or signature of school official. Upon graduation from high school, submit a final/official transcript with graduation date and school seal or signature of school official.

4. Must meet the following requirements to attend East Mississippi Community College while attending high school

a. Must be attending high school and enrolled in high school courses.
b. Must have completed a minimum of fourteen (14) core high school units (Students who have not completed the fourteen (14) core units may be admitted through the dual enrollment program if they have a minimum ACT score of thirty (30) or the equivalent SAT score.)
c. Must have a 2.5 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale on all high school courses, as documented by an official high school transcript; a home schooled student must submit a transcript prepared by a parent, guardian, or custodian with a signed, sworn affidavit to meet this requirement.
d. Must have an unconditional written recommendation from their high school principal and/or guidance counselor.

A home schooled student must submit a parent, guardian, or custodian’s written recommendation to meet this requirement.

Credit earned as a dual enrollment student is recorded on the college transcript and may be released to another institution or used for college graduation requirements only after the student has received a high school diploma.

REMINDER

Admission requirements must be completed before students are allowed to register for classes at EMCC. Students should have documents sent to the appropriate campus.

Official transcripts must be sent from the schools directly to the Admissions Office of the campus the student plans to attend. Student copies or faxed copies are unacceptable.
