Release date: Jan. 13, 2017
Golden Triangle Early College High School is now accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year.
This comprehensive, four-year program opened at East Mississippi Community College’s Mayhew campus in August 2015, when it admitted 61 ninth-graders from Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee and Oktibbeha counties. A new class of 60 freshmen will be admitted for the fall 2017 semester.
Through Early College High School, students can simultaneously earn a traditional Mississippi high school diploma and an associate’s degree from EMCC.
"We are looking for students who wish to attend a public high school in a non-traditional setting, and learners of all ability levels are encouraged to apply,” said Jill Savely, principal of Golden Triangle ECHS.
“Our primary goal is to prepare young people for college, career and life. Students are encouraged to read, write, think and talk in every classroom every day, and engagement through a variety of instructional methods is our focus. Interested eighth-graders and their families are encouraged to attend an informational meeting and to contact us with questions. We look forward to welcoming our third class of freshmen in the fall."
Golden Triangle ECHS is a partnership among EMCC, the Mississippi Department of Education and Mississippi State University. Nationwide, there are more than 200 ECHS programs, but Golden Triangle ECHS was the first of its kind in Mississippi.
All eighth-grade students currently living in Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee and Oktibbeha counties are eligible to apply. Applications are available online at www.eastms.edu
