Release date: March 19, 2014
The Pine Grove Arts Festival is coming up Monday, March 24, to Friday, March 28, at East Mississippi Community College’s Scooba campus.
The festival begins Monday afternoon with the opening reception for an exhibit of work by New Orleans artist Aaron Reichert called “Selected Portraits & Figures.” The reception will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Aust Hall. Guests will have a chance to meet and speak with the artist.
Art Daily said Reichert’s work “charts the delicate equipoise of fragility, creation and decay.”
Initially a sculptor, Reichert earned a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University. He then spent several years as a theatrical actor before returning fully to fine arts.
“Aaron is perfect for an exhibition here because his work is a combination of realism, which our students already get, and creative design and personal expression, which is a lot of what we try to teach,” said EMCC Art instructor Terry Cherry, who invited Reichert to present his work at Pine Grove.
The exhibit will be on display until April 4.
The Pine Grove Arts Festival has been an EMCC tradition since the late 1960s, when students and faculty collaborated to create a celebration of the arts. It has grown into a week-long celebration on the Scooba campus and is also celebrated at the Golden Triangle campus in Mayhew.
The Golden Triangle campus will host a one-day Pine Grove Festival April 16 which will also be open to the public.
