Sorcery, swordplay and high-octane action will be in full swing the evening of Friday, Sept. 2, as gamers from throughout the area descend on the Lyceum Auditorium at EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus. In March, more than 90 gamers attended the spring LAN party. An even bigger turnout is expected on Sept. 2 for a session that starts at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight.

An EMCC student and teacher were recognized among the best in higher education in the state at an awards luncheon at the Mississippi State Capitol. Sophomore Matthew Addy and Information Systems Technology instructor Andrew B. Sesser were named EMCC’s 2015-16 HEADWAE Award recipients.

Nine EMCC students will trek to Louisville, Ky., in June for the chance to become SkillsUSA national champions. In total, 18 Golden Triangle students from six programs placed in the Mississippi SkillsUSA in Jackson -- with nine claiming First Place. A reception was held April 9 to congratulate the competitors and wish them luck at nationals.

Christmas came early to Sarah Perkins this year. The single mother from Columbus is studying accounting at EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus, only with no computer at home and no money to buy one. But then, it all worked out -- with a little help from a Starkville businessman and EMCC's Computer Networking program.

Competitors from East Mississippi Community College left the Mississippi SkillsUSA technical competition Feb. 26 in Biloxi with seven first-place finishes. These students will advance in June to the National Skills USA competition in Kansas City, Mo.
