COLUMBUS – Quick! Go play a round of golf at Lion Hills. Before you make your big tee time in the sky.
The Funeral Service Technology program at East Mississippi Community College invites you to scratch that item off your list at the First Annual EMCC Bucket List Golf Tourney Sept. 30 at Lion Hills in Columbus.
The three-person scramble will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the 30th with lunch served at 1 p.m. Entry fees are $50 per individual or $150 per team. After expenses, all proceeds will go EMCC’s FST program.
FST instructor Octavia Dickerson said hosting a golf tournament at EMCC’s new golf course is a natural fit because “a lot of funeral home directors play golf.”
In addition to serving as a fund-raiser, the event is a networking opportunity for students in EMCC’s FST program. But incentives for players not in the funeral business include hole-in-one prizes as large as $15,000 in cash, round-trip plane tickets, a Sharp LCD Flatscreen TV and a set of Callaway irons.
Five par-3 holes will feature hole-in-one prizes. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top three teams.
Call the Lion Hills Pro Shop at (662) 328-5584 to reserve your team’s spot. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
About the Funeral Service Technology program:
This program prepares students to care for families during a time of loss, to bring closure and memorialize the deceased. Students in this profession see it as a ministry in which they show compassion for the bereaved, exhibit sensitivity and sympathize with those being served.
Students from EMCC's Funeral Services Technology program get in the mood for golf during a break from class at the Scooba campus.
