nurse taking blood pressureEast MS Community College is seeking state approval for a new associate degree nursing program and plans to admit the first class beginning January 2010. The decision regarding approval to admit students is the responsibility of the MS Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and is expected to be provided during the fall 2009 semester.  Acceptance of applications for the program is on hold until approval is obtained.
Students interested in applying to the associate degree nursing program may refer to the following information in preparation:

1. The Applicant must have:

  • A minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT with a score of 19 in reading.A grade of “C” or higher in College
  • Algebra and Anatomy and Physiology I&II-prerequisite science classes must have been completed within the last 5 years.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all previous college work attempted.

2. Nurse Entrance Test (NET) score of at least 50% - YOU MUST MEET THE MINIMUM ACT SCORE PRIOR TO TAKING THE NET.

PRE-REQUISITES:
BIO 2514 - ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY I    4 HOURS
BIO 2524 - ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II    4 HOURS
MAT 1313 - COLLEGE ALGEBRA                   3 HOURS
BIO 2924 - MICROBIOLOGY                                        4 HOURS

TOTAL PRE-REQUISITE HOURS                  15 HOURS


*3. The LPN Bridge Program does not plan to admit students until after the first class has successfully  completed the associate degree program in December 2011.

Graduates of the program receive the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree which meets the educational requirement needed to apply for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing licensure examination for the Registered Nurse.  A Board of Nursing may, at its discretion, refuse to accept the licensure application of any person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor or has charges pending on such issues.
