Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology program is designed to provide specialized occupational instruction in all phases of hotel and restaurant management. The program prepares students for careers as managers/supervisors in the hospitality and tourism industry. Completion of the two-year program leads to in Associate of Applied Science degree.

This program targets the needs of entering students who want to develop skills required for entry jobs at the mid-management level in the hospitality industry and individuals already employed In the industry who need additional competence for possible advancement. Courses cover phases of food safety, sanitation, selection, production and handling, as well as, aspects of the common practices and management principles of the hospitality. industry. Classes present a systematic approach to the flow of business through a hotel beginning with the reservation process and ending with the night audit. Texts include computer applications and use of the technology.

Additional emphasis is placed on nutrition and meeting the needs of customers, students, and clients in the hospitality industry, as well as, institutions such as nursing homes, schools and hospitals. Students work closely with area leaders in the industry through Delta Epsilon Chi, the Mississippi Restaurant Association, the Mississippi Hotel and Motel Association, the Dietary Managers Association, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Students who pass national certification exams receive certificates in designated areas which are recognized worldwide.

Enrollment is open in either the fall or spring semesters.

Entrance Requirement:
Students enrolling in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology degree program must present proof of a minimum ACT score of 10 in English and an overall composite score of 12 or have a TABE composite of 555 of higher.

NOTE: Graduates of this program are required to score a 10.0 or better grade level on the Tests of Adult Basic Education - Level A (Reading, Math and Language). Academic assistance is available through the Related Studies Department.
