FIRST METHODIST CHURCH The EMCC Reflection Singers performed Feb. 1 during Sunday worship service at First Methodist Church in Columbus. Under the direction of Wendy Smith and accompanied by Katey Kingsbury, the group sang four selections: "I Surrender All," "I Need Thee Ev'ry Hour," "Here's One" and "The Lord Bless You and Keep You." More than 120 juniors and seniors from local high schools competed for scholarships Feb. 6 during the 3rd Annual Scholars' Olympiad at East Mississippi Community College. The overall winner, for the second consecutive year, was Columbus High School. Shown posing with this year’s Scholars’ Olympiad trophy are, first row from left, Clarrissa Daniels, Lashonda McGregory, April Harris, Shivonte Burwell, Zainab Ahmed, Binh Nguyen, Marion Morrow, Tunisha Brandon and Jessica Jackson. In the second row are Tyron James, Bryan Carter, Avery Ford, Leanna Hill, Christopher Sullivan, Matthew Chaffin, Houston Walker, James Richardson, Marquella Wells, Ivan Jackson and Emily Chaffin. The second place overall winner was Caledonia High School, and Immanuel Christian School took third place honors. Also competing Friday were students from Central Academy in Macon, Heritage Academy, Millsaps Career and Technology Center in Starkville, New Hope High School, Noxubee County High School, Starkville Academy, West Oktibbeha High School, West Point High School and West Point Career & Technical Center. ...
