It is indeed a pleasure for me to acquaint you with East Mississippi Community College’s plans for Lion Hills, formerly known as the Columbus Country Club.
Four years after the Columbus Country Club was founded in 1923, East Mississippi Junior College was formed in Kemper County and later expanded into Lowndes County. And now, these two institutions have merged their common tradition of serving the citizens of Columbus and Lowndes County.
Lion Hills is up and running, serving former members of the Columbus Country Club and signing up new ones, welcoming visitors to the golf course, hosting community events and
planning for the future.
It is the mission of Lion Hills to continue to be the premier source of hospitality and golf for the Golden Triangle. With the addition of educational and training programs, we intend to extend services in
three major areas to the EMCC district and Northeast Mississippi.
Learning: Education and training is the centerpiece of Lion Hills's service commitment to the community. The facility is the home of EMCC's Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology, Culinary Arts, and Golf and Recreational Management Technology programs. In addition to these college credit programs, Lion Hills will host continuing education and community interest courses, corporate seminars and workshops, and small conferences that serve local and regional interests.
Dining: It is our goal to deliver quality food in an atmosphere of southern elegance, with well-trained staff and customer-focused management. We want Lion Hills to remain the first choice to host banquets, seminars and receptions for organizations and community groups. Likewise, it is our desire to appeal to individuals and families looking for the perfect setting for weddings and wedding receptions, Christmas and holiday gatherings, and almost any other type of party or celebration. And, it is our intent to remain the home for all civic clubs and organizations that currently meet in the clubhouse and to welcome all other groups.
Recreation: EMCC is committed to establishing Lion Hills as a highly respected golf course that will draw players from across the region. As a public course, Lion Hills will attract both expert players and novices. The mission for the golf operations staff will be to provide an environment where everyone feels welcome and every golfer is challenged to play at or above their ability level. Lion Hills will continue to host fund-raising and friend-raising tournaments for community groups and other organizations. Golf instruction for all ages will be available to the community and other recreational opportunities, including tennis and swimming, will be a part of Lion Hills.
We look forward to welcoming you to Lion Hills.
