  • MI-BEST program enables student to adapt to life changes

    EMCC student Wakeena Spain, 23, was finding it difficult to juggle motherhood and college. Just seven classes short of an associate’s degree in Administrative Office Technology, Spain decided to delay completion to pursue another educational path. She entered EMCC's MI-BEST program will soon meet all the requirements needed for her to apply for work at a local manufacturing plant.

  • EMCC adopts Tobacco-Free Campus policy

    On Jan. 1, EMCC maintenance staff installed “Tobacco-Free” signs all across campuses and removed the ashtrays that had been outdoor fixtures since the Scooba campus was established in 1927. The use of all forms of tobacco is now banned, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, dip and snuff, as well as e-cigarettes.

  • More than 30 students receive GED diplomas at graduation

    EMCC held a GED commencement ceremony Dec. 8 at its Golden Triangle campus for 34 adult basic education students in the Launch Pad program. Among them was 50-year-old Elizabeth Ross of Crawford, who returned to school this year after a 33-year absence.
