An all-EMCC-Golden Triangle student cast and crew will present Agatha Christie’s "The Mousetrap" in East Mississippi Community College’s Lyceum for three consecutive performances May 2-4.
The Mousetrap is the world’s longest-running play. The murder mystery takes place at the Monkswell Manor, bombarded by snow. Giles and Mollie Ralston have inherited the inn and are trying to make a go of it, but are suddenly thrust into a challenging and dangerous situation.
Don Rodney Vaughan, who has been on EMCC’s faculty for five years, and EMCC-GT student Tori Butler, who was in EMCC’s production last year, are the director and assistant director.
"Back in November, we had so many students audition that I thought it would be good to have two casts so that everyone who auditioned could have a part," Vaughan said.
"The students are getting great experience: offstage and onstage. While one cast is performing, those in the other cast are working behind the scenes. They’re earning one credit hour toward their degree for their participation in the production. We started rehearsing January 9.”
Cast 1 will perform on Friday and Saturday, and Cast 2 on Sunday.
Before curtain time and during the intermission, four students will be singing some songs from 1952, the year "The Mousetrap" premiered. Betty Bryan, who teaches music appreciation at EMCC-GT, has been teaching the singers and will be playing the accompaniment.
The characters and the cast members who play them are:
Giles Ralston: Graham Young and Austin Roberson
Mollie Ralston: Michele Smith and Jessica Rowland
Christopher Wren: Zachary Berryhill and Ariel Gordon
Mrs. Boyle: Mia Bell
Major Metcalf: Charles Thompson and Chris Reagan
